Behaviour management

Peachester State School follows a Positive Behaviour for Learning  (PBL) approach to Behaviour. This helps us to develop a safe, respectful and productive learning environment by establishing a positive school climate where students and adults have strong, positive relationships and students understand what is expected of them as learners at school.

At PSS, all staff work together to establish and maintain a positive school climate. All adults communicate, teach and model the positive behaviours they expect students to exhibit in the classroom and in other parts of the school throughout the day. By setting expectations, teaching students to meet those explections and regularly reinforcing appropriate behaviours, PSS maintains very few incidents of inappropriate behaviour and more time spent learning.

Each week, our students watch a short video which helps to teach them our focus skill for the week. Our school Bees - Bella (Safe Bee), Benny (Respectful Bee) and Bea (Learner Bee) captivate our students and teach them how to be successful at school.

The core behaviours are:

Be Safe

Be Respectful and

Be a Learner

PBL Positive Achknowledgement System

A whole school positive acknowledgement system is used to reinforce the positive expected behaviours. When a staff member 'catches' a student displaying one of our positive expectations or school values, they may give them a Kracker ticket to add to their pocket in the classroom.

Each student keeps track of their Krackers in their Bee Value Book. When they finish each page, (20 tickets), they join the Bee Hive!!! (The Bee Hive is on the Noticeboard on the pathway) The student also receives a reward, negotiated with their teacher.

Class teachers have class targets, allowing the whole class to aim towards a fun activity with their peers when they reach a certain level.

As a whole school, there are target goals as well, with a term end celebration if the whole school reaches the goal.

Peachester Proud Individual Award

Teachers use the “Peachester Proud" Matrix to award students' individual behaviour and effort each semester. Teachers use this matrix to communicate with students and parents, setting goals for future terms. Teachers present students with certificates in class.
